NEWS- The Prime Minister Rt Hon Nabbanja Robinah is camping in the Elgon subregion to oversee complete relocation of people from disaster high areas that is ongoing.
The Prime Minister was on arrival in Mbale city received by the Minister of State for Disaster Preparedness Hon Lilian Aber, the Minister for Karamoja Affairs Hon Florance Namboozo, Area Members of Parliament, Local and opinion leaders.
Rt Hon Nabbanja later addressed a stakeholders meeting attended by leaders from all districts in the Elgon subregion.
The Premier told the meeting that, her 3 day visit to the area aims at setting mechanisms of ensuring immediate relocation of all people in disaster prone areas to already gazzeted safe places.
According to Rt Hon Nabbanja, the current relocation phase features a new cash transfer policy, which provides each household with Ugx 17 million of which Ugx 10 million is from the government of Uganda and Ugx 7 million from development partner, GiveDirectly, along with two acres of land in Bunambutye.
“This policy aims to empower families to build their own homes compared to the previous model of providing fully constructed houses” Rt Hon Nabbanja reiterates.
