NEWS– The Police in Rukungiri District are investigating circumstances surrounding the accident that claimed life of a boda boda cyclist.

ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesman told this reporter that the accident occurred on Tuesday February 13, at around 12:30pm in Nyamayenje ward, Southern division along Rukungiri- Ntungamo road.

Maate added that the accident involved a Toyota Allion motor vehicle registration number UBJ 142Z driven Mugarura Jackson 72 year old peasant and resident of Kashenyi 2 cell, Ngomba parish Rugarama Rushenyi Ntungamo district and motorcycle registration number UER 980U that was being rode by a 45 year old Denis Turyamushangayo Alias Butcherman, a businessman resident of Kashenyi go down, Ruhinda sub County in Rukungiri district.

The Police Spokesman confided to the press that the rider of the same motorcycle first sustained serious injuries and was later pronounced dead at Karoli Lwanga Hospital Nyakibale on the same day.

It’s alleged that the two motorists, Mugarura and Turyamushangayo, both were coming from the opposite direction of Buyanja and Rukungiri sides respectively, the rider (now the deceased) was loaded with about 4 banches of banana.

They both then collided head on at a slightly curved junction road, on the vehicular lane of the deceased with allegation that the driver of the Toyota Allion left his vehicular lane to the rider’s.

The rider first sustained serious injuries, both vehicles got major damages and banches of bananas got scattered at the scene.

Maate adds that the scene was visited, documented and cleared by DTO, ASP Ntawera Felix and team, both vehicles towed and parked at Police pending IOV inspection.

Preliminary findings attribute this accident to recklessness by the driver of Toyota Allion. A close friend to the deceased told our reporter that Turyamushangayo was taking the banana banches to Buyanja by the time he got the accident.

Turyamushangayo will be laid to rest on Thursday, February 15th 2023 at his home in Bwanda, Buhunga Sub County, Rukungiri district.
