KABALE- The Police in Kabale District are investigating a suspected suicide case involving a Senior Six student of Solberg College who was found dead at the school premises in Rutoma Cell, Nyabikoni Ward, Central Division of Kabale Municipality.
The deceased has been identified as Kiconco Nikita, a 21-year-old female student and resident of Rutoma Cell, Nyabikoni Ward. Her body was discovered hanging in one of the dormitories today at around 1:00 PM.
According to the head teacher of Solberg College, Mr. Tusiime Denis, most students had left for the Easter holiday on Friday, leaving behind about 60 students, including Kiconco.
This morning, the students went for prayers at Nyabikoni Church of Uganda at around 10:30 AM, leaving behind only Kiconco and another student, Tusiime Alice, who stayed in separate dormitories. Kiconco had reportedly said she was unwell and on medication.
Tragically, when the students returned from church, they found Kiconco’s lifeless body hanging from the roof with a rope around her neck.
Alarmed, they alerted the school matron, who in turn notified the head teacher. The matter was immediately reported to Kabale Central Police Station.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the incident, noting that a suspected suicide case file has been opened.
The body was transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination as investigations continue to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
