President Museveni in Gulu

GULU- President Yoweri Museveni has cautioned Members of Parliament against unrealistic agro-economic business venture for their areas.

Museveni’s comments followed suggestions for him to support different agricultural interventions against his suggested 4 acre model.

The President insisted that the 4 acre model should not be challenged by researched agro activities citing cotton that he says has failed people of west Nile among others.

Museveni has referred MPs to what is happening in Busoga where people have insisted on growing sugar cane, a practice that has kept them in poverty over the years.

He thereafter directed the MPs to stop the confusion the population and focus on what he has researched on the 4 acre model for social economic development.

The President narrates that he has ordered legislators to also look at the utilization of the already constructed roads before proposing for more roads.

President Yoweri Museveni used the same opportunity to rally Northern Uganda Parliamentarians to support free education for all as a poverty alleviation strategy.

Museveni says households spend a lot of education at the cost of their own welfare and survival which can only be reversed leaders in the northern part of the country focused on free education for children to reduce the cost.

The President notes that legislators should share his perspective of ensuring that government schools are fully functional and offering free education to all children moving forward.

Museveni also revealed that Government is fast tracking the construction of the railway to ease transportation of cargo to through the northern region of the country.

Museveni has tasked the minister of state for works Musa Ecweru to explain the progress of the project adding that his Government stated on the project long ago.
