The Police in Rukungiri District are investigating mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of an 83 year old woman identified as Fausta Nzarirehi, whose lifeless body was found in her house at Kyato village in Nyakitabire Parish in Ruhinda Sub-county.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the incident saying that it’s alleged that, the deceased has been married to Bindeeba Joseph and they produced 6 children who unfortunately all died at their childhood age.
This prompted Bindeeba to marry the second wife Tuhirirwe Harriet whom he was living with and abandoned the late Fausta alone in the house.
It is reported that some years back in 2021, Tuhirirwe developed a land wrangle with Nzarirehi Fausta but the dispute was resolved by the LC III Chairperson Ruhinda who maintained the said Nzarirehi Fausta on the disputed land on condition that she shouldn’t dispose off/sell the said land.
Maate explained that the deceased was lastly seen around the village on the 27th September 2025 but the following day, her house was seen locked from inside the whole day and she was nowhere to be seen which prompted the husband Bindeeba and others to reach at the deceased home which was found locked from inside.
Bindeeba informed the Area chairperson Kyato village, Mutabazi Francis who went and found one of the deceased’s windows closed but not locked with a bolt and he reported the matter to Ruhinda Police Station.
Maate said that upon receiving the information, the Police officers responded and they found a lifeless body in Nzarirehi in the bedroom lying up words and the Police of Ruhinda notified Rukungiri Central Police Station about the incident and inquiries into the matter commenced.
The scene of crime was visited, processed and documented and the body was conveyed to Rwakabengo Health Center III Mortuary for the postmortem examination to establish the cause of her death as investigations continue.
