NEWS- A government secondary school in Katakwi District has miserably resorted to seek for a bank loan from centenary bank after invited leaders shunned the fundraising activity.
Priscilla comprehensive school a mixed day and boarding secondary school had formerly invited guests like, the Vice president Jessica Alupo, speaker of parliament Annet Anita Among, first lady and Minister of education and sports Jennet Kataha Museveni, prime Minister Robina Nabanja, Teso MPs, LC5s and District councilors and other stakeholders but unfortunately no one surfaced for the function.
Over 12 bulls, goats, turkeys, chicken, g-nuts, pumpkin and other sorted items bounced back without being auctioned.
The deputy head teacher of the school, Emanuel Icila told journalists that the fundraising was aimed at collecting money that would help in the construction of the girl’s dormitory but it was unfortunate just.
Icila added that their next plan is running for a bank loan so that it will help the structure get complete next year by all means. The building on the ground level is expected to consume three hundred million shillings only if completed.
He said that, they managed to fundraise about 7Million shillings only yet they spent almost a half of that money for organising the event.
Speaking to Hon. Icila the-Joy, the District councilor for elderly persons in Katakwi wondered why all leaders failed to attend the meeting yet they were invited.
“They always want to dictate their being chief guests in all functions and when we give them they fail to attend and contribute, they would have even sent their representatives with money if they were busy” Icala stressed.
Koluo Razak, the chairperson of Parents Teachers Association thanked the few leaders who participated in the event and urged the public to always trust the school in all avenues.
Meanwhile, Peter Ogwang the state Minister for Education and sports pledged to lobby for the construction of the ICT laboratory and thanked a team from Teso affairs Ministry who came to evaluate the building on Tuesday 21st November 2023 and recommended 380 iron sheets for its roofing.
Ogwang, who was represented by the NRM chairperson for Katakwi District Richard Opio Edeket, gave Ugx. 5M towards the construction of the girl’s dormitory.
