NEWS- The National Unity Platform (NUP) has finally recalled Nyendo – Mukungwe Division Member of Parliament Hon Mathias Mpuuga from his position as a Commissioner of Parliament following corruption allegations leveled against him.
The Acting National Unity Platform President Dr Lina Zedriga Waru, issued a public statement dated March 15th 2024, saying that Hon Mpuuga was accused of corruption and abuse of office when he together with National Resistance Movement Commissioners irregularly allocated to themselves Ugx 1.7 billion which was termed as, “Service Award”.
According to the public statement signed by Dr. Zedriga, although Hon Mpuuga responded to the accusations as requested by the Party National Executive Committee and asked not to be recalled, he did not provide satisfactory explanation for engaging in the said grave action.
Dr. Zedriga noted that the action Hon Mpuuga did goes against the mission, values and objectives of the party since he did not make an attempt to respond to the specific accusations leveled against him and the party has since written to Parliament about the same recalling.
Dr. Zedriga has also said that National Executive Committee has resolved to nominate Hon Zaake Francis Butebi at new Parliamentary Commissioner since he was illegally removed from the same role in March 2022.
In the meantime, the National Unity Platform will in the coming days initiate the relevant process to effect the resolution made by the party.
