Ruhinda Sub County Council was on Friday officially sworn in at Ruhinda Sub County HeadquartersRwenshaka ParishRujumbura ConstituencyRukungiri District, beginning a leadership mandate expected to run from today until 2031. The swearing-in ceremony brought together councilors from both the district and sub-county levels, alongside the technical team of Ruhinda Sub County and other key stakeholders.

The function started with the swearing-in of LC III Chairperson, Hellen Kabajungu, who pledged to serve faithfully, uphold the laws of Uganda, and protect and defend the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda with God’s help. Addressing the council, Kabajungu emphasized the importance of unity—urging councilors, the technical team, and all stakeholders to work together so that Ruhinda “keeps shining”.

After taking her oath, Kabajungu was presented with the tools of power by the Subcounty Chief. These included the stampoffice keys, and other sub-county properties such as motorcycle keys, among others, symbolizing authority and responsibility.

Other council members also took their oaths, including ward representativeselderly representativesPWD representatives, and youth representatives, to officially start their term of service.

In the leadership selection process, Akankwasa Godwin and Kabahango Paul were nominated for the speakership position. After nominations and voting, Kabahango Paul was declared Speaker of Ruhinda Sub County with 15 votes, while Akankwasa Godwin received five votes. Kabahango later pledged to work diligently, promote unity in council, and strengthen cooperation with the technical staff to advance development. For deputy speakership, Daphine Natukwasa Twesigye, the female youth councilor, was elected urging for deligent work.

Tumusiime Kenneth was appointed Vice Chairperson (LC 3), while key offices and committee roles were also distributed.

Closing the function, the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Rukungiri, Agaba Hiraly, urged the new council to cooperate with technical staff to ensure effective service delivery, congratulated them, and reminded leaders that they are in office to serve the people through community-focused development.
