Speaking to our reporter during the commissioning of these boreholes in Rwamucucu and Kamwezi sub counties, the locals led by their sub county chairpersons Eddie Mugisha and Teddyson Niwagaba respectively said that the locals have been at a risk of contracting diseases from fetching and consuming contaminated water from the swamps.

They added that the situation had become worse during the rainy season where stagnant water from the roads would be collected in these swamps.

They further alleged that some locals have been sharing the same water sources with Animals and some could even get drowned although they could be rescued.

The Rukiga district woman MP Hon Kamusiime Caroline Muhwezi said that the ponds in the swamps have been a threat to young children and challenged the locals to own the boreholes and protect them for their own benefit.
