NEWS- As preparations for the 2026 elections unfold, over 18 candidates have shown interest for Kajara County parliamentary in Ntungamo District.
Most of the aspiring candidates have been seen on ground already engaging residents across the constituency rallying support behind their vision as they set strong ground as we head to NRM primaries come 2025.
This came after the incumbent legislator MP, Hon. Michael Timuzigu, publicly declared that he will not be seeking re-election in 2026 as per their constituency set guidelines of every legislator to serve two terms in office for effective cycle of leadership in their county.
In a recent interview with our reporter, A PhD holder Dr. Godwin Atwine, a retired UPDF army officer and a lecturer at Team University one of the aspirants, affirmed his unwavering decision to run, citing his commitment to addressing various challenges in the constituency such as poor road infrastructure, widespread water scarcity, lack of electricity, and subpar academic standards in schools, among other issues.
He added that his manifesto will be centered on fostering a culture of unity and inclusivity, by promoting equal opportunities for all citizens and encouraging participatory governance, involving all stakeholders in decision-making processes for a better Kajara.
Developing and implementing programs to enhance entrepreneurship, innovation, job creation & job connections with more social capital to all and supporting agriculture as the back born of Kajara, promoting tourism, and small-scale industries to boost local economy.
Atwiine says there is need for affordable Education for all primary & post primary ,alternative sources of income for all, markets for products produced in Kajara, promotion of sports, environmental conservation, promotion of tourism in Kajara, Lobbying for good road networks, support to elderly, support to youth, women & it I Atwine says having worked in different organizations and offices, he is ready to lobby for PWD groups by getting more connections for them through social networking and sensitization of Kajara people on different government programmes.
Most parts of Kajara lack clean water and electricity due to absence of community engagements that can bring knowledge on one table to advocate for better services in their communities and as a son of the soil I will always engage the community to know their challenges so that I can present term on flow of parliament and to different government offices for effective service delivery.
As an educated person who wish to see Kajara take a step in terms of development I will ensure that all residents participate in economic development, mainly at household level and to make sure that we train youth and adults how to effectively use their time to reduce levels of poverty for a better Kajara county.
Not all workers are better off and my contribution will rotate around lobbying government agencies and programs like lobbying for workshops from government and non-government organizations to train youth in skills that will transform them economically.
I will also focus on improving household incomes and self-sustenance. I intend to organize community barazas (bimeeza) at parish level as a way of gathering people’s views.
Dr. Godwin Atwiine explains that he will sensitize his people about all the laws they will be intending to pass in Parliament so as to let them know about their rights and about the Constitution and to always enlighten them about what is happening elsewhere in the world and to make them know about their rights and entitlements.
I will make sure that we reconcile with those that am contesting with who will lose at both primary and general elections because elections sometimes divides us therefore am ready to cooperate with all my contenders if at all am trusted with power to take up Kajara come 2026.
Dr Atwiine wants a parliament that will focus on the needs of everyone. We must also be in a position to consult our people and represent their views effectively before we can make any contributions in Parliament.
He pledges to work closely with relevant authorities to ensure that there is value for money on all projects that can benefit our people and to ensure that those projects are delivered to the public expectations.
