CAIRO- The Church of Uganda is pleased to participate in the Global South Fellowship of Anglicans (GSFA) Missions Consultation Roundtable, taking place from 6th to 9th May 2025 at All Saints Cathedral, Cairo in Egypt under the theme “Built Together for Mission” (Ephesians 2:22).
The roundtable consultation is hosted by Archbishop of the Province of Alexandria, The Most Rev Samy Shehata and brings together mission leaders from Global South Fellowship of Anglicans Provinces to reflect on and strategize around global mission work.
Over the last three days, representatives from each of the Global South Fellowship of Anglicans Member Provinces have shared powerful presentations outlining the current mission work within their countries and churches.
According to Rev Dr Timothy Chong, Chairman of the Global South Fellowship of Anglicans Missions Partnerships Track, these contributions are to shape a foundational blueprint to guide the development and strengthening of collaborative mission projects and to plan for collaborative efforts with mission partners in the coming months.
“These four days are intense, and I hope they will inspire us to look beyond our own Provinces—fostering connectedness and vibrancy in our mission efforts, which can lead to future South-South, South-North, and East-West partnerships.” Rev Dr Chong said.
While representing the Church of Uganda, the Director of Mission and Outreach, Rev Simon Peter Ddembe LyaYesu, emphasized the centrality of discipleship as a core strategy for sustaining effective and lasting Mission outcomes.
“Without intentional discipleship, our Mission activities may lose depth. We must invest in equipping believers to grow in faith and become active witnesses in their communities,” Rev. Ddembe stated.
Rev Ddembe expressed concern over the widespread underfunding of mission work across many Provinces globally, noting that limited financial support continues to hinder the Church’s capacity to effectively carry out its evangelistic and discipleship mandate.
He reaffirmed the Church of Uganda’s commitment to holistic mission with a focus on strengthening family life, capacity building for Clergy, youth and children’s ministries, outreach to persons with disabilities (including the deaf and blind), and leveraging multimedia platforms for evangelism and discipleship.
The Global South Fellowship of Anglicans Development Secretary who led a series of three Bible study sessions, titled “Chosen in Christ, Risen with Christ, and United in Christ,” Rev. Canon Charles Raven, explored God’s eternal purpose, the transformative power of the resurrection, and the unity bestowed upon His Church.
He reminded delegates that believers are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared in advance for them to walk in and urged participants to live purposefully, walk faithfully, live for the glory of God, and let the gospel shape both their personal lives and collective mission.
Other Global South Fellowship of Anglicans Provinces represented at the roundtable include South East Asia, the Indian Ocean, Sudan, Brazil, South Sudan, Congo and Alexandria.
