NEWS- Dr. Chrispus Kiyonga, the Kasese District NRM Chairperson has started a campaign that is aimed at improving the academic performance of the learners in some primary schools located in Bwera Sub-county, Bukonzo County West.
The campaign started with a meeting of Head teachers, PTA Executive Committee members of government grant – aided schools and Local Council I Chairpersons across the sub-county.
The schools that were represented at the meeting which was held at the Opinion Offices in Mpondwe –Lhubiriha Town Council included Kyogha, Nyamughona Kasanga, Nyakabale Church of Uganda and Kiyonga among others.
During the meeting, participants resolved that in order to improve the academic performance among the pupils, Local Council I Chairpersons and parents should be attending meetings that are organized by the management committees of schools.
They also resolved that with guidance from Head teachers, each school should set targets directed towards passing exams.
To improve the attendance of school meetings by parents, the participants agreed that a tracking system should be put in place and monitored by both the Head teachers and Local Council I Chairpersons.
The District NRM Boss also told the participants that he would establish a centre where learning materials would be printed from.
More, he observed the need for the parents to establish self-help projects that would help in addressing challenges related to insufficient classrooms at most schools in the sub-county as they wait for the government to intervene.
However, some Head teachers including Ms Penninah Nziabake from Kiyonga Primary School appealed to the religious leaders to join the campaign since the command has a big following that almost believes in them.
Mr. Zaverio Muhindo, the Head teacher at Kyogha Primary School requested the government to introduce a program that is aimed at providing psycho-social therapy to some teachers, especially those with multiple loans.
