
The Rotary Club of Kihiihi in Kanungu District has launched the 14th edition of the Rotary Cancer Run 2025 under the theme “Running for Hope”.
The launch took place August 19th 2025 in Kihiihi Town Council, beginning with a tree-planting exercise at Kihiihi Health Center IV in memory of the Late Dr James Musinguzi Garuga who was a honarary member as a way of promoting environmental conservation.
This year’s official Cancer Run will be held on 31st August, 2025 alongside the Nationwide event at Kololo grounds in Kampala and as part of the celebrations, Kihiihi will host it’s own local run, featuring a 10-kilometer race starting from Kigezi Educational Center in Kihihi Town Council up to Kazinga Roundabout area and a 5- kilometer race within Kihiihi Town Council.
While speaking at the launch that took place at Centenary Bank’s Kihiihi Branch, the Chairperson of the Rotary Cancer Run 2025 Robert Arinaitwe, said the Rotary Club was previledged to see members, well-wishers and cancer survivors turn up in large numbers to support the cause.
He explained that the Nationwide Cancer Run fundraising target to raise Ugx 4 billion and the proceeds will be directed to St Francis Nsambya Mission Hospital to improve cancer treatment support services.
Atmrinaitwe further encouraged community members to participate in the run by purchasing kits at only Ugx 30,000 , adding that the event is not only about running but also about saving lives.
The President of Rotary Club of Kihiihi Rotarian Sunday Charles, praised members for their active participation and emphasized that the tree-planting exercise was symbolic of Rotary International’s commitment to protecting the environment, while also linking it to the broader mission of improving health services.
Rotarian Sunday Charles noted that the funds raised will go towards establishing radiotherapy services and cancer banks in Uganda to reduce the burden of patients traveling abroad for treatment.

The Centenary Bank Kihiihi Branch Manager Nkurunungi Naphtali Mark, expressed gratitude to Rotary Club members for choosing the bank as a an official partner in the launch and said the bank was proud to support the cause and confirmed that staff members had also purchased kits and were ready to take on the 10-kilometer race challenge.
Kanungu District Health Officer Dr Birungi Mutahunga who is a Past President of Rotary Club of Kihihi and a medical practitioner present, congratulated the Rotary Club for spearheading the initiative and encouraged people to embrace the Cancer run not only as a fundraiser but also as part of a healthy lifestyle and he highlighted that regular physical activity helps prevent risk of non communicable diseases factors such as obesity, which is linked to cancer and other lifestyle diseases.
The Rotary Cancer Run continues to serve as a unifying cause across Uganda, Combining community health awareness, environmental conservation and fundraising for improved cancer care.
