NEWS- Residents of Kibanda parish, Kamwezi sub-county in Rukiga district are decrying scarcity of water and are living in fear of water borne diseases outbreak.
The most affected villages are Kakanyoro with 200 households, Rwanyakiju village with 250 households, Kashansha village with 180 households, and Rwemigugu village with 190 households.
The affected area also serves schools of Kibanda primary school, Rwanyakiju nursery and primary school, Kashansha nursery school and little Angel’s academy Kibanda, Churches like Kashansha church of Uganda and Rwanyakiju catholic church as well as Kibanda health centre II.
Lillian Kembaga a resident of Kakanyoro village says that as women, they have failed to get water both for drinking and home use and their children are suffering from waterborne diseases since they don’t have safe water for drinking. Idah Sabiiti from Rwemigugu village says they have cried to their leaders about this problem but all in vain. Ivan Muhangi also asked leaders to come to their rescue.

James Katwiire, the chairman LC1 Kakanyoro cell asked the government to rescue them, similarly Christopher Yebuuze, the chairman LC1 Kashansha cell asked the top leadership to intervene before the situation gets out of hand.

When contacted by our reporter, the Rukiga district chairperson Mbabazi Robert Kakwerere said that they are in touch with National water and sewerage corporation and are building a borehole in Rwemigugu village to solve this problem.
