Ntungamo Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon. Gerald Karuhanga Kafureeka, has called on the government to secure funds to acquire land for establishing sub-regional industrial parks across the country.

Karuhanga says the move would boost industrialization and create employment opportunities for young Ugandans.

Speaking on Radio Ankole’s Saturday Political Show, the legislator said many small-scale manufacturers, including people producing juice and soft drinks, are currently operating from rented houses or homes because of limited access to suitable industrial facilities.

He warned that such conditions could pose challenges for consumer safety and make effective regulation more difficult.

Karuhanga cited Namanve as an example of an industrial park that provides infrastructure such as electricity and water, saying similar facilities at the sub-regional level could help attract investment and create jobs within communities.

He argued that establishing industrial parks on between five and ten acres of land in different areas could provide opportunities for young people, including fresh university graduates and those displaced from Ntungamo Central Forest Reserve following enforcement actions by the National Environment Management Authority, NEMA.

Karuhanga further said Uganda’s youthful population requires deliberate government investment in industries that can provide employment and reduce the need for young Ugandans to seek jobs abroad, including domestic and security work in Arab countries.

He assured voters in Ntungamo Municipality and Ugandans at large that he would table the proposal before Parliament for consideration.
