KAMPALA– The Molly Katanga murder trial continues for the second day as prosecution presents its 3rd witness Peter Ogwang; the OC station of Bugolobi police station.
Ogwanga has testified before the High court how one of the accused Katanga daughters, Patricia Kakwanzi asked him to cover up her father’s death and report it as an accident.
Instead Ogwang advised her that she cannot cover it up and must involve a scene of a Crimes officer. Ogwang has told Justice Isaac Muwatta that he knew Patrica Katanga before as she used to follow up cases of security-plus at Bugolobi Police station.
Ogwang has stated that on the fateful day of 2nd / November 2023 at about 9am, he was rang by Dr. Charles Otai and informed him that there was an incident of suicide by shooting at a residence in Mbuya and that he needed police to take over .
Ogwang has told court that he went over and found the police’s liaison officer Samuel Musede guarding the scene. He found Henry Katanga’s body lying down on a new mattress and covered with a bed sheet. He also noticed a lot of blood in the room and on the bed and a black Pistol.
Ogwang immediately called Detective Superintendent of police Akong Bibiana who came up with a team of Homicide officers including a Scenes of Crime officer. That’s it to her he handed over being his superior.
However on cross-examination, it was established that some accounts of his oral testimony were not included in his written statement he recorded on 6th/ November. The defence then asked court to have his statement accepted as their exhibit. Prosecution is now leading its 4th witness Timothy Nyangweso; a manager in Watoto and a nephew to the late Katanga.
Nyangweso has identified in court her aunty Molly Katanga who is appearing on zoom and her cousins Patricia Kakwanzi and Martha Nkwanzi. The mother and her daughter are charged with the murder of the family’s patriarch Henry Katanga and destroying valuable evidence which would have proved his murder respectively.
While fighting tears in his eyes, Nyangweso has talked about his late uncle Katanga as a family man, compassionate; he loved his children and relatives and was very generous. Court has heard that the late Katanga was a father figure to his nephew and always gave him wise counsel and was saddened when his mother called him to inform him about his death on 2nd / November 2023.
Timothy Nyangweso is a son to the elder sister of the late Katanga Naume Nyangweso.
