NEWS- A total of 112 Primary seven candidates who sat their 2023 PLE exams on three government aided primary schools in Kasese district had their results been withheld by UNEB.
The affected pupils include 55 out of 65 of Kinyabisiki Primary school in Kyondo sub-county, 45 out of 52 at Bweyale Primary school and 12 out of 53 at Ruboni primary school.
While releasing the PLE results for Kasese district on Wednesday afternoon at the District Multipurpose Hall in Kasese town, the Acting Kasese District Education Officer, Ernest Bwambale Thabugha, said that the fate for the withheld PLE results is not yet known.
Thabugha, however, quickly said that Uganda National Examination Board will invite the affected candidates, officials, Head teachers of affected schools, and the District leadership to the security committee for fair hearing before taking final decision.
He, on a serious note, strongly warned school administrators to desist from the vice, revealing that it has been a common habit in Kasese district.
Commenting about the withhold of results of 112 pupils, the Deputy CAO stressed that whoever would be found guilty to have participated in a circumstance that has led to withholding of the PLE results, will be held accountable and penalized without fear since he or she has affected the education process of innocent Ugandans (pupils).
He further mentioned the worst performing schools considering failures as well as those that didn’t turn up to sit for the exam as Kahendero, Maghoma, Nyakanengo, St Augustine Kitabu, Kyondo and Kasenyi Primary Schools respectively.
However while giving detailed overall performance for Kasese district; Thabugha said that a total of 11,076 including 5251 males and 5825 females sat for their PLE exams last year.
Among these, 375 males and 321 females passed in Division One, 2,933 males and 3,174 females passed in Division Two, 1128 males and 1363 females passed in Division Three, 492 males and 293 females passed in Division IV while 229 males and 293 failed completely and a total of 94 males and 119 females did not turn up to sit for their 2023 PLE.
The Acting District Education Officer mentioned the best performing government aided schools as Ruboni, Bwera COU, Katwe Boarding School, St John’s Bukangara, Kagando, Hima Public, Kalonge 1 and Mweya Primary Schools respectively.
The best performing private schools include Kithulha model, Global Vine, Bright Star, Ndongo Baptist, Ibanda Progressive, Mariam preparatory, Dusek and Good care primary schools.
Mr. Thabugha added that the district managed to get 93 candidates who scored aggregates 4 to 8 from both Government and private schools.
And among the candidates who got best aggregates from government schools are Ayubu Isingoma with 8 agg from Kalonge 1, Gift Martha 8 from Ruboni, Joad Kiiza with 8 from Ruboni, Ezra Tusiime with 8 from Rugendabara, Vincent Nsima with 8 from Hima Public and Lillian Kasemire with 8 from Hima public.
While the rest 78 pupils who got aggregates between 4 to 8 were from private owned primary schools, Thabugha narrated that the overall district performance has put Kasese district to the 65th position countrywide, dropping from the 80th position of 2022 PLE results.
He attributed the 93.4% performance to the committed Head teachers, teachers, pupils, parents and all stakeholders.
